| Food Box I was required to design packaging which evoked feelings about the item contained. To encourage the socialising aspect of eating on a break either at the office or at school I came up with a snack idea called Broast. The packaging is based on the aesthetics of a toaster, and is constructed from carton board. Each box contains a rack of either two, four or six slices of bread, a splodge of butter, a dollop of topping (in this case honey) and a spreading utensil. The concept is that you buy a packet of broast with all the ingredients already included, you then take it to your work place or hotel and simply toast your bread just the way you like it. A group of work/class mates can then socialise around the toaster as they wait for their toast. It is a simple idea providing the perfect boost for the inner city worker. ![]() ![]() Lines of Communication Using typographic and calligraphic tools I was asked to design a piece of written text for a general audience, enhancing the ideas and messages carried by the text. I decided to communicate an Idi Amin quote from Giles Foden's book and Kevin Macdonald's film representation of 'The Last King of Scotland'. Amin was named the Hitler of Africa, as he strived for power and made the rivers run red. The illustration is a portrait of Amin, where I have focused on hand gestures from a speech and his evil eyes. The red running down Amin's body is an ariel view of Victoria Nile, doubling up as blood on his hands, symbolising the canibal he was and became. It is a recruitment poster that shows Amin's true feelings focusing on what was important to him. The colours are based around the Bauhaus movement, with posters from El Lizzitzky influencing my design. ![]() Emotional name A typography project where we were asked to typeset a name emotionally attached to us. I decided to use hatred as a device and reflected back to my secondary school. Drew made me feel small, he made me choke on my words when it came to making a speech infront of the class, therefore I chose to make a neck garment attached to my school tie. Made from splintered wood and rusty nails my aim was to try and make his name look spiteful to reflect his true character. When it is worn the tie becomes increasingly tighter replicating my past emotions. ![]() |
